A Multisensory Exploration of Neuroarts and Human Connection

What if you could see music move through the human body? What if your heartbeat could become part of the art? This fall, step inside the music with KC VITAs for an extraordinary 360° immersive experience at the Arvin Gottlieb Planetarium at Union Station.
A 24-voice ensemble, neuroscientist Dr. Rebecca Lepping, animation artist Evan Tedlock, and conductor/artistic director Dr. Jackson Thomas come together at the intersection of music, neuroscience, visual art, and human connection. Surrounded by breathtaking projections inside the planetarium's state-of-the-art dome, experience brand-new choral works (including multiple world premieres) as music explores memory, emotion, identity, regulation, and connection. And in a first-of-its-kind element, willing audience participants can have their heart-rate data transformed into live projected art, making the audience itself part of the performance.

“In One Mind” is created for the seasoned concertgoer and those brand new to choral music and meant for all ages. Seating is extremely limited and tickets can be purchased at the Union Station website.

when we arrive at home
After a decade of championing new choral music and amplifying underrepresented voices, KC VITAs released its debut album "when we arrive at home" on Neuma Records. More than just a recording, the album is a resonant reflection on the ensemble’s first ten years: a curated tapestry of standout works and composers whose music has shaped the ensemble’s identity and artistic legacy.
Each piece on the album was selected to embody the ensemble’s mission: to bring vital, emotional, and boundary-expanding choral music into the world. Spanning from the lush and tonal to the avant-garde, some works are long-standing companions from earlier premieres; others are fresh additions from composers across the United States. Together, they form a singular portrait of what new music can do—how it can hold grief, wonder, protest, memory, and the unspoken truths of our lives.
